Writing is one of those things that make me feel...like me. I've spent a lifetime reading and writing and still can't get enough of either. I select novels like I choose shoes; they have to be the right fit. If I'm writing a novel, I aim to write like Donna Tartt, Zadie Smith, or Gil Adamson, and pray I fall somewhere closer to that than I would have otherwise. It doesn't mean I don't read "brain candy." I love a whodunnit by Jo Nesbo for on-the-dock summer reading, whipping through pages until the sun goes down; blockbusting page-turners like "Gone Girl" while on vacation; a Leonard Cohen poem before bed; Wordsworth with a cuppa tea.
As I grow in my writing, I promise to share bits and bobs, below and on my Facebook page. Click on each PDF link to read excerpts and samples of my writing. If you like any, please let me know on one of my social media platform links below.
Curl up with a hot or saucy beverage and enjoy. JY
"Lady Friend" -Semi-finalist in The Writers Magazine 2020 Fall Short Story Contest
"Perfidy" - CommuterLit This short story opened up to two more (a reader asked for more, so I got down to writing). It tells the tale of an unhappy marriage (not mine!) and how a kind neighbour gets unwillingly involved. I call it "The Perfidy Trifectum."
